Which material suits which use
Ceramic tile is commonly used for wall covering. For a floor, shower or busy area, choose only a porcelain tile whose technical data explicitly approves that use. For mosaic, check the size of each small piece, the supporting mesh, the substrate and the shape of the surface being covered.
Small tiles and mosaics
Small tiles are practical in wall recesses, behind a kitchen worktop and across compact decorative areas. A mesh-mounted mosaic may follow a rounded column or another curve, but suitability depends on the size of each piece, how the mesh bends and the radius of the surface.
What to check before ordering
In the technical data, confirm whether the product is approved for walls, floors, showers, pools or underfloor heating. Also check the finish, edge, rectification and shade or graphic-variation code. These details affect the layout, grout-joint width and how different one tile may look from another.
Layout, installation and care
Before installation, verify the batch code, open several boxes and distribute tiles from different boxes across the planned area. A long tile can bow slightly through its centre; a half-length stagger aligns the highest part of one tile with the lower end of its neighbour and can increase lippage. Follow the exact product guidance for the stagger. Select grout, adhesive and cleaner for the tile and substrate.
